Entry #2

540 B.C.

I can officially call myself a Samana. I have given almost all my possessions away. All I have now is a loin cloth and my mind. I never cook my food and only eat once a day. When I pass by the people in the towns, I frown upon them for living a life of glamor and luxury without knowing the the real pains of life. A life without pain is a life without knowing. Business men trading, princes going to hunt, mourners weeping over their dead, and prostitutes offering themselves. These are all lives that have not truly experienced the harsh and cruel realities of the world.

When I was a wealthy Brahmin, I used to meditate as a form of peace and spirituality. Now it is an escape from having to deal with my life. I have learned to transport my mind into the body of another being. I experienced death and flying but always return into a lifeless body that I have to call my own.

  1. I love all the descriptions and facts! You can tell how determined he was and how willing he was to do what he had to do to become a samana. Our team found something like this too. Your entry really makes you feel like your really there!

  2. I think Siddhartha made a good choice by leaving his family to find the path of enlightenment.

  3. I don't think I would've been able to do what he did; give up all of my possessions to basically live like a hobo. I respect that he did that though.

  4. I very much do agree that "a life without pain is a life without knowing". This journal has also really captured the essence of Siddhartha's thoughts and feelings. You are showing many things Siddhartha went through, as in the changes.
    Great job!

  5. This is a very good lesson for people because if you don't experience pain then you won't know the difference from the good and the bad in the world. Great job in finding this.

  6. I really like this journal. I agree on the quote, "A life without pain is a lide without knowing." I can relate to this, I am living in a ordinary family with an ordinary life; therefore,I don't really know how wealthy families live. I can only imagine how it's like.
